Taste & See, The Wingfeather Saga

Y’all, there’s been so much going on these past couple weeks that if I went ahead and talked about all of it, I’d need a table of contents! Last week I talked about the second volume of a devotional that literally changed my life, FINDING GOD IN ANIME, and over on Instagram we are doing a hashtag photo challenge throughout the month of June in celebration. I could go on about that alone!

But in the interest of keeping things short-winded and varied around here, I’ll set that aside and address two other ongoing projects that I couldn’t help but get behind😆 Hint: they’re both in the title.

Sneaky, huh?

Taste & See is actually a ” . . . cinematic documentary film series exploring the spirituality of food with farmers, chefs, bakers and winemakers engaging with food as a profound gift from God.” I learned about this event through the Rabbit Room (a community of artists founded by Andrew Peterson, who also happens to be the author of the Wingfeather Saga. Go figure.)

The more I learned about this documentary series the more I felt it was something for me. I mean, I have a passion for food, and I love God. I wanted to know more. So I watched the trailer. Then I bought a ticket for the film.

Watch the trailer for yourself!

It was a fascinating experience. On the technical side, you purchase a ticket to watch the pilot film at certain times over a two-week period (more details here). It comes with a recorded live discussion afterwards with the creator that digs deeper into the project of both the pilot and the series as a whole. On the actual film side, it follows the story of a young woman who seeks to reconnect with her Jewish roots after her mom dies, and she does it via an educational farm that provides not only a hands-on approach to agriculture, but also teaching how it applies to the Bible and their Jewish history.

What stuck out to me was the cycle of life and death, and how through death we have and are given life—which applies both to the food we eat and how, through Christ’s death, we are given a new life in him.

Another thing that stuck out to me was when they were talking about composting, and how God can take all the junk of this life and turn it into something beautiful and useful.

I feel like I’m butchering these concepts😅, but overall it was a deeper look into food and its significance in our physical and spiritual lives that I’d never given much thought to. Viewings are still available, but only until Sunday, so don’t wait to look into this! It’s not something to miss. I purchased the ticket with the bonus extended interviews, so I’m looking forward to watching those and getting more insight and backstory. Because I do love me a good backstory.😉

The Wingfeather Saga

And now for the Wingfeather part! If y’all didn’t know, The Wingfeather Saga is an absolute treasure and treat of a book series with heart, biblical truths, and toothy cows. It has been described as ‘Lord of the Rings meets The Princess Bride’, in that it is epic and rich but also whimsical and fun.

In a word: AWESOME.

And they’re making an animated series on it! The author and his team of incredible creators have partnered with Angel Studios (host of The Chosen) to distribute this amazing story, and it’s looking like season one will be coming out sometime in December! I am absolutely stoked about this project, and just today the executive producers were on a livestream sharing about merch (cool shirts!), character design (gorgeous!), animation clips (gobsmacking!), and revealing some of the cast (splendiferous!). Here’s the ‘first look’ video:

Check out their channel for more recent updates!

I am positively stoked for this series. The art is beautiful, mirroring the story, and I can’t wait to watch it! I’ve been trying to keep up with all the updates as the production team get closer and closer to completion. I’ve never looked forward to winter so much.

Not that I’m in any hurry for summer to end. Far from! I’m really enjoying being able to run around in shorts and a t-shirt and not suit up to pop outside and sit at my computer without my fingers turning purple. It’s great.

But now, winter brings the Wingfeathers, and that’s about as good as Christmas!

Aaaand despite my efforts, I was still long-winded—thanks for sticking around to the end of my excited rambling! There might be a lot going on right now and I might be feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment, but there are a lot of good things going on to be excited about! With things like The Wingfeather Saga animated series, Taste & See, and Finding God in Anime, it’s hard not to see how God can move in many different ways to reach his children wherever they may be.

Which of these projects sparks your interest?

  1. I am SO excited about the Wingfeather TV series! And thank you for clearing up the mystery of “when will it be coming out?” because for some odd reason I have been having a very difficult time figuring that out. I have tried following along with the progress of the show, but it feels like certain info is very hard to find. I dunno. Maybe I’m just looking in all the wrong places. 🙂

    Yay, December!!!

    • YES! And I totally get it. We have access to more information in this day and age than we’ve ever had before, but it’s still so hard to get the information we’re actually looking for! I would suggest signing up for the email list on the Wingfeather website and following their channel on YouTube for video updates. I think that’s the most effective way . . .? I get investor updates, too, through Angel, but I don’t think that’s everything, so I did opt for the email list on the Wingfeather site: https://www.wingfeathersaga.com/the-tv-series I hope this helps!
